Difference between Eco-Friendly and Non-Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chaturthi

Introduction:

In this activity we are going to differentiate between how we can celebrate eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi and Non-Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chaturthi, what are the expenses for both, availability of materials required and how they affect the environment

Parameters Eco-friendly Non-Eco-Friendly

How do we make the idols?

  • Idols are generally made up of biodegradable materials like sand, clay, mud.
  • Idols are generally made up of non-biodegradable materials like plastic, plaster of paris (POP) etc.
  • Expences

  • The materials required are very cheap and can be found anywhere.

  • Idols are generally made by ourselves as it is easy to work with those materials so we don’t have to buy them and use extra money.

  • No. of public pandals and the decoration used in them are reduced and natural materials are used for decoration.

  • This lowers down the price of pandals and decorations.

  • This also reduces noise pollution and the use of non-biodegradable material is also reduced.

  • As The materials are costly and are required a lot.

  • And some materials are needed to be manufactured in factories.

  • The cost of designing the idol is also a lot and it is very hard to work with these materials.

  • No. of public pandals are very much which lead to a lot of expenses.

  • And more pandals lead to more decoration needed. And the decoration is done by non-biodegradable materials which are generally expensive.

  • Affects the environment

  • In eco-friendly ganesh Chaturthi the environment isn’t affected badly.

  • Instead we put a seed inside the mud idol mixed with fertilisers then immerse it into the ground then a tree is grown easily - this helps the environment and maintains the eco-friendly balance.

  • The number of pandals are less so there is very less noise pollution and the decoration is also very less and done by biodegradable materials which can be reused and recycled

  • Non-Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chaturthi affects the environment badly.

  • The idols that are made with toxic materials mixed with chemicals increase water pollution.

  • This also leads to the death of aquatic animals and aquatic plants.

  • Many people drink the sea water also and get affected by these chemicals.

  • The number of pandals is a lot leading to excessive noise pollution and the decoration is also a lot with the use of expensive and non-biodegradable material that cannot be recycled and reused and pollute the environment.

  • How are they celebrated?

  • Idols are made up of sand, clay etc mixed with fertilisers with a seed inside them so that they can be grown into trees.

  • The number of pandals are reduced.

  • The number of decorations are reduced.

  • Biodegradable materials are used.

  • 3Rs are used.

  • Idols are made up of chemical and toxic materials.

  • Number of pandals and decorations is very high.

  • Decorations are done with non-biodegradable material

  • 3Rs aren’t used.

  • Toxic materials are used.
